The making of my catdragon lino print

In this post I am sharing with you how I created my catdragon lino print.

A few months ago I created a YouTube about a Scrawlr subscription box  (which you can find here) and drew this catdragon with the Posca pens provided in that box.

This inspired me to create my linoprint. I drew the design on tracing paper and transferred this to my Essdee softcut block – which is much bigger than what I normally use.

Carving the triangular shapes and the eye was the most difficult part. After a few test prints and more carving I ended up with the resulting print. For this I used A4 Daler Rowney Smooth Heavyweight paper and Caligo Safewash.

I printed this by hand, which is always a bit hit and miss and time consuming and not all prints came out the way I wanted.  I ended up with some having smudges outside the actual print, so had to discard them – I probably use the back for test prints or the front for other projects and keep a couple as proofs.

I ended up with 8 prints I am happy with – they don’t all look identical due to the hand printed nature. All prints are signed with a pencil and are sold with a certificate of authenticity.
