Commission for a customer

Just finished this commission for a customer of mine. The beads are Amethyst and Moonstone. The difficult part was knotting the beads. I prefer stringing. Earrings are made with memory wire – an effective way to keep the shape.

  Thanks a lot Minta. I think generally the jewellery isn’t too dear. Unfortunately rules and regulations are so much stricter in Britain with regards to selling Silver Sterling – over here it needs to be hallmarked when it is over a certain weight, which isn’t cheap. You have to apply for your own hallmark, pay for it and it is valid for about 10 years. You have to weigh each item and send them off.You pay for shipment both ways and an admin charge plus for each item hallmarked. This makes working with silver much more expensive than in the States, which is a shame. It’s therefore not surprising that the books I own from American artists rarely mention hallmarking – and with silver wire wrapping hallmarking can be tricky.

“I have bought some lovely jewellery and bookmarks from Helen typically to give as special and unusual presents. Everything is beautifully made, reasonably processed and always well packed. I have also been a lucky winner of a red bracelet and earrings set which has bought me some lovely compliments as does the lovely blue and white nautilus necklace which is so unique and eye catching. I was really interested when Helen began making the sculptures, watching her posts as each model developed. As a cat worshipper, this specific group really caught my eye! “Just taken delivery of 2 cat sculpture ornaments, a surprise for my birthday and am thrilled with them. Very special as handmade so each one unique. They arrived very well packaged and in cat paper with a ribbon and each even came with an adoption certificate with my cat’s name on, a lovely touch.
